Alan Carlyon Smith MA, PgDip, Pg Cert, PGCE I am an artist, working full time at the Wimbledon Art Studios in Riverside Road. I believe that people identify with historic buildings as they portray emotional history. Doorways specifically suggest a transition and a duality of existence. My range of work is quite diverse as I’m a sculptor and a painter. Often one medium is a foil for another. A substantial body of my work relates to an abstracted figurative form and relates to personal identity and the spiritual being. I am the founder of The Wimbledon Group, being a group of artists exhibiting together for the purpose of interaction and promotion. We established a ‘pop up’ gallery in Wimbledon’s Centre Court, for two years. My work has been exhibited quite widely and my next public exhibition is in the Urban Art Fair, Brixton. I show twice a year in the Wimbledon art Fair and regularly show in the Affordable Art Fairs. The NPG shortlisted my self-portrait and I am currently showing at the GHG in Baker Street. For many years I lead outstanding Art Departments in local secondary schools.
