Alison Groom
Painting
Alison is a textual landscape artist at Wimbledon Art Studios. She is inspired by the interplay of light on water. She loves to walk along the Thames and take trips on Uber boats. From the boats she hopes to get great views of London's bridges with sparkling water in the foreground.
She also loves the sea and some of her favourite places to visit for inspiration are Cornwall, Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk.
Recently Alison went to Sri Lanka and stayed in a coconut grove next to the Indian Ocean. She was utterly captivated and has been experimenting in search of a language to express the beauty, serenity and spirituality of this wonderful island in her work.
Alison is fascinated by the changes in light and colour at different times of the day and her favourite times are early morning as well as late afternoon, sunset and the gloaming.
Initially she applies acrylic mediums with granular additives with various tools to express the texture she observes. Multiple layers of oil paint are then applied over the acrylic ground to define and illuminate her paintings.
