Anya Joanes
Painting
Anya Joanes is a contemporary fine artist based in West London. Anya works mainly in oils, although drawing in pencil and charcoal are fundamental to her practice.
Growing up in London, Brazil and Portugal, with Dutch and Indian Parents, her influences draw from classical painting combined with a meditative practice of looking. Observation is the starting point of Anya’s work, seeking an emotional and exploratory response to the motif, whether that be landscape, the figure or still lives. Colour plays an important role in her work, in creating space , light and connecting to the human spirit. Opening up to imagination, memories and symbolism is part of the search for the poetry of life.
Anya has exhibited with the Royal Society of British Artists, the Bath Society of Artists, The Discerning Eye, the New English Art Club and Highgate Contemporary Art gallery. Her work is exhibited at Gallery 19 in Kensington, London and is held in a number of private collections in the UK and Portugal.
