Arietta Spinou

Arietta creates clay sculptures that explore the positioning of women in relation to knowledge and power. Drawing on personal experiences in academia, her work reflects on the long history of patriarchy that has shaped who is allowed to speak, study, and lead.

Working with clay - a tactile, vulnerable, and resistant material - she challenges ideals of perfection, productivity, and performance often tied to academic and social success.

Books recur as forms, symbols, and structures, especially in relation to women. Her figures are grounded and bodily rather than idealised; they carry knowledge through presence. They take up space simply by being.
