Dina Klumbys

Showing with Ripple Arts

Dina is a self-taught artist from South London, and she started painting only a few years ago despite always having a natural flair for drawing and creating. Her pieces have a laid-back simplicity with a modern touch, abstract realism, commission pet portrait, and are greatly inspired by her childhood upbringing in a little European country, Lithuania. Being originally from a town named Kaunas, the beauty of nature, and vibrant colours were part of everyday being. She shears this inspiration and talent for producing artwork with children aged between five and eleven through teaching an afterschool art class. Being able to teach art to young people strengthens her own fixation for creating and expression, whilst enhancing the knowledge and passion for art in them. They are able to learn about artists, explore various techniques and materials to create, and ultimately develop an understanding of their own specific point of view. Painting for Dina is a poetic expression, a state of mind, rather than a photographic copy of an image or object. It is her self-proclaimed meditation. The colours are the "language of her soul". By using bright colours, Dina creates artwork that is both an expression of her life and the world around her in a joyous, uplifting way. In a world where there is so much darkness, Dina chooses to be a light of positivity, and this is truly portrayed through her style of art. Acrylic has become Dina`s material of choice because of its rich, thick texture and quick drying abilities. She loves to work with this medium as it can keep up with and accurately depict the flow of her ideas. Nature and influences of wildlife inspire every piece of her art she creates. Whether it be floral, animals, the glorious changing of the seasons, a sunset, the ocean, the stars at night, the cities and the people; the inspiration is endless. Dina finds inspiration in all kinds of creatures, big and small, they have been significant factors that have led to making her the person and artist that she is now. Dina illustrates examples of women with a clear purpose; a story. Through her artworks, Dina wanted to show that a woman can make the impossible in fact possible, allowing the vibrancy of colour to bring out the majestic wonder and warmth of a woman. Woman is a confident creature. While Dina makes no attempt to portray actual existing people, she does want her creations to look like they have live somewhere. She represents women as confident, fun loving, intelligent creatures.
