Fiona Wyse

Contemporary tapestry, tufted textiles and woven wall hangings

Fiona Wyse is a Wimbledon-based textile artist whose work explores the relationship between landscape, memory and material. Through handwoven tapestry and tufted textiles, she transforms observations gathered from everyday walks, travels and seasonal changes into richly textured contemporary artworks.

Drawing inspiration from both urban and natural environments—from the River Thames and London parks to the coastlines and landscapes of Scotland—her work captures moments that might otherwise pass unnoticed: frost sparkling on bark, shifting reflections on water, the warmth of summer sunlight or the drama of an approaching storm.

Photography, sketchbooks and collected visual references often form the starting point for a piece. These are then translated through weaving and tufting into tactile surfaces where colour, texture and structure become as important as the image itself. Fiona enjoys allowing the materials to influence the outcome, creating works that balance careful planning with the unexpected discoveries that emerge through the making process.

Rooted in traditional textile techniques while embracing a contemporary visual language, her work invites viewers to slow down, look closely and reconnect with the textures, rhythms and stories found in the world around them.
