Katie Preston

Printmaking

Katie Preston's landscape screenprints are all made by hand and have a painterly, lithographic feel. She first learned to print as part of a two-year foundation diploma at Putney School of Art & Design and really enjoys the push and pull as she builds up layers of transparent colour and different types of marks, searching for texture, depth and liveliness in what is essentially a flat medium.

Starting with photographs and sketches, Katie’s prints create a dreamlike, version of everyday life, from flowers, trees and paths to bridges, streets and tube stations, all influenced by her love of 19th Century Japanese woodblock prints and a nostalgia for childhood book illustrations.

Katie joined Southbank Printmakers cooperative in 2025 and is also a member of ArtCan, an international arts organisation providing opportunities and fair payment for artists. She is a director of Common Works Gallery CIC, which organises art events in southwest London, and teaches screenprinting at Putney School of Art and Design and drawing from her home in Wimbledon, London.
